Meeting preparation: Coffee, lots of paper and …Sellotape!

Pleasantries and greetings over, coffee offered and accepted, and then was revealed a model straight out of Blue Peter – what a surprise!

What a way to crystallise a brief  – loads of paper but not as we anticipated using it!

Loads of paper and sticky tape had been used by our clients to create a 3D model of their dream home and whilst they certainly won’t be giving up their day jobs to become professional model makers, it was such a success – it worked! They used it to explain how they wanted to use the space, where they wanted windows and doors and why. We moved walls, gates and roofs (well paper ones any way!); and together we all understood their dream.

As professionals, trying to explain complex ideas and technical aspects to non-specialists can prove difficult.  However, using a physical and visual tool helped us to better explain the issues relating to party walls, floor levels, roof design and drainage – all using the model created by our client.

So not only did they feel that they had communicated their vision to us, but we were felt we had been able to do the same for them, in a way that was tailored to their needs.

They communicated clearly to us their dream, we understood, and together we all now know what comes next – the hard work! …but that’s for another blog.
