RWRP Newcastle: Not a Wasted Opportunity!

On June 18th, ethical partnership had the please of being involved with the ‘Right Waste, Right Place’ seminar in Newcastle.  This free, interactive and practical seminar focused on Duty of Care within the Construction Sector and ensured that anyone who produces, treats, disposes, moves or arranges the movement of waste would fully understand the risks (and rewards!) that full compliance can have for their business.

The event opened with the ‘Right Waste, Right Place‘ campaign’s Alan Holmes introduction and overview of the aims.  This immediately set the positive tone for the event and showed that Duty of Care is not a daunting concept and can have numerous benefits for businesses.  Following this, Lynsey Little of the Environment Agency highlighted what full compliance should look like and provided insight into the governmental process that is involved.  Next, our own Allen Creedy discussed ‘cutting the cost of waste’ to further show the benefits that full compliance with Duty of Care can have.  Allen also displayed some case studies and site audits that ethical partnership has undertaken with major companies within the construction sector, just one of the many services that we offer.

After a coffee break, the seminar continued with Lara Ayris of WPS providing a practical approach to the correct labelling and storage of waste.  This also provided an in-depth look at how miscommunication between parties involved can lead to non-compliance.  Peter Scholes from Anthesis followed on from this by describing how to apply the Duty of Care within a business, emphasising the important environmental and economic benefits that can be achieved.  Finally Dr Anna Willetts of Clyde & Co. ended the seminar with the legal importance of Duty of Care for waste management.  This provided an idea of repercussions from non-compliance, from fines to prosecution.  Thank you to all of those involved and attended – the event provided great insight into Duty of Care within the Construction Sector.
