Castleside Village Having Their Say on Unmet Housing Needs

This week, Ethical Partnership are distributing surveys to residents in Castleside Village, County Durham. The survey gives the opportunity for the residents of Castleside to comment on their specific unmet housing needs.

Housing need can come is different forms, it could be that extra space for working from home is needed or affordable housing or specialist accommodation.

At a national level, the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) outlines that the purpose of the planning system is to achieve sustainable development by ensuring that a sufficient number and range of homes can be provided to meet the needs of present and future generations.

The NPPF states that to support the Government’s objective of significantly boosting the supply of homes, it is important that a sufficient amount and variety of land can come forward where it is needed, that the needs of groups with specific housing requirements are addressed.

At a local level this survey will inform the ‘Meeting Housing Needs Statement’ needed by Durham County Council to better understand how to meet local community housing needs.
