At EP, we are keen to support charities and organisations that we feel are making a real difference in the world. We have recently started supporting Friends of Mutake School, a charity based in the United Kingdom that provides support to a school in rural Zimbabwe.

Friends of Mutake School has been assisting the school and its pupils on an informal basis since 2009, with trustees and schoolteachers working together to link disadvantaged children with sponsors. The charity currently sponsors twenty one children and are committed to making the school a better learning environment for all of the pupils.

The future goals for Friends of Mutake School include:

  • Securing primary and secondary school fees for children who are most in need of financial support.
  • The provision of unfirms and stationery for students.
  • Tree planting to provide shade, bear fruit, improve ground water recharge and enhance carbon sequestration.
  • Supporting with healthcare needs.
  • The provision of tables and chairs for all classrooms to allow for a more comfortable learning environment.
  • Ensuring continued clean water provision by continuing to maintain the solar-powered borehole.
  • Rebuilding of classrooms and assist the school with continued maintenance as needed.
  • The creation of a library by repurposing a shipping container from Create a Container in Harare, to provide a ready-built and eco-friendly library of books.
  • The building of a purpose-built kitchen. Currently the school cooks meals on open fires, however a purpose-built kitchen would improve the health and safety for cooks, allow more bulk purchases and storing of stock, and improving carbon emissions.

Friends of Mutake School aims to provide as many sustainable and eco-friendly options for the school possible. Through reusing, repurposing and recycling materials, the aim is to provide low-cost effective solutions to improve the day to day running of the school.

This is something that everyone at EP can thoroughly get behind. The right to a quality education, as well as having a focus on sustainable solutions, are core beliefs of everyone here at EP. We are excited to being supporting Friends of Mutake School and seeing how we can grow our relationship with the charity in the future, to ensure that they can keep delivering the vital services they provide to families and children within Zimbabwe.
