Police Station Cottages

  • Location: Ponteland, Northumberland

This project was the redevelopment of a group of 15 existing buildings situated in the central part of the former Northumbria Police Headquarters site in Ponteland.

Originally, these buildings were part of the Ponteland Cottage Homes complex and served as housing for orphans and children from impoverished families in the early 20th century. Of the 15 buildings, 14 have received Grade II listing status due to their significance as exemplars of early 20th-century childcare facilities.

Over the years, the buildings have served various purposes, including their use as part of the Northumberland College of Education and, most recently, as operational and training facilities for Northumbria Police.

The proposal was to sympathetically restore the listed buildings; the buildings were then converted and used for the purposes of residential accommodation
