2023: A Year in Review at EP

As we bid farewell to 2023, it’s time to reflect on the incredible journey and achievements that have defined a remarkable year for EP. Join us as we celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our team and the milestones that have shaped EP’s success in the past year.

We were all thrilled to announce that Jo Rogers was awarded and recognised as the RTPI Young Planner of the Year for the North West region in 2023. Not only that, but Jo also emerged as a national finalist for Young Planner of the Year, a testament to her dedication and expertise in the planning field.

Since joining EP as a student planner last summer, Alec Coaker has achieved the significant milestone of securing his first planning approval! Alec’s contributions have left a lasting impact on both smaller schemes in and around Newcastle and major national infrastructure projects.

Alannah Mathewson‘s dedication to supporting major complex rail projects, both regionally and nationally, is commendable. She has also actively participated in regional National Association of Women in Construction events, empowering girls and young women aspiring to build careers in the construction sector.

Dean Abbot has been instrumental in growing exciting new business relationships. As we look ahead to the rest of 2024, Dean is already planning for major growth at EP, demonstrating his strategic vision for the future.

Matthew Creedy, one of the Directors here at EP, achieved a significant milestone by securing planning permission for his third Paragraph 84 house (formerly Para. 80), showcasing his expertise and leadership in the planning field. He has also continued to help all team members with a wide variety of planning support and guidance.

Tom Grimshaw has successfully balanced his commitment to infrastructure and rail projects while completing the last year of his MPlan degree at Newcastle University. Additionally, he raised an impressive £1,700 for Prostate Cancer by participating in the Great North Run with his Dad.

Becky Greenhill has been actively involved in various public engagement events, collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Her passion for exploring the historic built environment is evident in her work with scheduled ancient monuments, securing consents that align with her commitment to preserving heritage.

Rosie Eccleston played a pivotal role in securing planning permission for multiple sites dedicated to the retrofitting of renewable technology such as solar and air source heat pumps nationwide. Her dedication and knowledge of sustainable practices has been a strong driver within the team.

Peter Gillan‘s expertise in major infrastructure projects has been invaluable to the EP team. In addition to supporting planning projects and successful appeals, Peter obtained his Level 5 Operations and Departmental Management Diploma, further enhancing both his and our capabilities.

Alison Convery took a residential project from design, through the planning system and finally in 2023 to completion and was able to see the completed project in person with a tour from a very happy client! Her involvement in organising volunteering opportunities through the ‘Adopt a Plot’ scheme with The Ouseburn Trust reflects EP’s commitment to community and environmental well-being.

Will Laing has demonstrated exceptional skills in securing planning permission and successful appeals for our clients, achieving an impressive 100% success rate at Planning Appeal in 2023. One notable achievement includes resolving long-standing issues to secure forestry uses on behalf of a client in Northumberland. Also, Will’s success in a planning appeal regarding outside space for a Northumbrian pub in the green belt was featured in the esteemed planning professional magazine, The Planner.
